Anthony is a University Lecturer and Principal in General Practice. He is a clinical member of the OXCIS team, whose main research interest is in childhood infection, focussing on early and precise diagnosis and appropriate primary care management. Specific topics of interest include: making a diagnosis of whooping cough, influenza and antibiotic use, prehospital penicillin for meningococcal disease, community acquired human metapneumovirus and the epidemiology of Kawasaki disease.
Anthony is a Fellow of St Hugh's College, where he has teaching commitments, and is an examiner for the Diploma in Child Health. He represents the Royal College of General Practice on the National Advisory Panel for the Confidential Enquiry on Child Deaths.
