Siân is from a background of Psychology and Clinical Psychology. She graduated from the Hull-York Medical School in 2005 following the completion of her Clinical Psychology Doctorate. Siân’s thesis explored the relationship between concerns, psychological distress and quality of life in Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) patients. The objective of the research was to identify whether concerns elicited prospectively from patients undergoing treatment with the ICD are related to and could therefore potentially predict subsequent psychological morbidity and reduced quality of life. The research aimed to promote psychoprophylactic care for this patient population.
After graduating, Siân spent two years working as a Clinical Health Psychologist in Oncology, providing psychosocial assessment, intervention and support for cancer patients and their families.
Siân joined the Cancer Group in the Department of Primary Health Care in January 2009 and is working with Dr Peter Rose on a questionnaire study investigating the use of primary care services and the unmet needs of 1800 long term cancer survivors. This project has been funded by Cancer Research UK.
